Chronicling the Yankees' season from my view in the bleachers.

May 09, 2006

All I ask...

...is that at least once during the next 3 days a Yankee pitcher (any Yankee pitcher) knocks Esther Rolle David Ortiz on his ass. They don't have to hit him, and they certainly shouldn't aim for his head. Just close enough to make him a little less comfortable. Unfortunately I think Farnsworth is the only one with the balls to do it.

I think Sturtze could also do it. It would be almost worth keeping him for this alone.

I don't know. Sturtze would probably miss and throw a big fat fastball down the middle of the plate.

I'm old school baseball. I hate that the game no longer seems to have a place for knocking a guy on his ass. But knocking ortiz down is going to lead to ww3 (not saying if that's good or bad), so it shouldn't be taken lightly.

The yankees have pitched ortiz inside, but they haven't backed him off the plate. If they do, after the nypost article, he'll know it's on purpose.

If ortiz gets knocked down, it isn't going to end there. Someone, arod, giambi, jeter, will end up paying. There's really no question. So someone like RJ has to have the team's backing to put ortiz on his back, because beckett's then throwing 98 at arod, followed by the benches emptying.

And other teams have had luck with ortiz without knocking him down, so I'm not sure it would accomplish a whole lot, personally.

(tonight's the night to do it if they're going to, however. wakefield retaliating with his knuckler would be hilarious.)
