Chronicling the Yankees' season from my view in the bleachers.

That which does not kill us...

Maybe, just maybe, the fact that the Yankees had to fight their way to a division title this year is a good thing. They weren't able to coast into the playoffs. And because of that I like their chances in the post-season. Starting off the season 11-19, it was all doom and gloom. They strung some winning streaks together, but would then fall on their asses again. But they finally got their shit together (thanks to some unexpected heroes) and finished strong. If this was all reversed, if they started strong and finished crappy, just squeaking out enough wins to make it, I don't think I would be as optimistic.

Give the yankees more credit than that, they lost a lot of pitching due to their injuries which set them back quite a bit, thats part of the reason they fell off teh race in the begining. They had 1 man who could get them 7 innings of solid pitching, their bullpen was tired all the time from pitching from the 5th inning on, give credit where credits due

Uh, I don't quite follow. Who am I not giving credit to? Sure, some of their early season woes were due to injuries to their pitching staff, but the team overall wasn't playing like they should have. If the Yankees failed to make the playoffs you couldn't put all of the blame on injuries, that's a cop-out.

The Yankees, as a team, played like crap in the beginning of the season. (Who can forget the look on Jeter's face during that horror of a game in St. Louis) I seem to recall that at times when they did get a decent start the bats went dead, or there were too many errors in the field. Bernie couldn't hit or field for shit. Giambi's bat was still dormant. They had Woe-mack in the line-up everyday. A-Rod was making errors left and right.

And then the team, as a whole, came back and made an incredible run (thanks to guys like Cano, Wang, Chacón and Small). Their pitching got on track, their defense played better, and their bats came alive at the right time.
